We hit the road around 8:30 this morning as that tends to be our desired starting time, and headed for Maggie Valley to see the Wheels Through Time motorcycle museum.
Robert and I visited this place last year and thought the group would really get a kick out of it as well. I mean who wouldn’t appreciate a collection of motorcycles, dirt bikes, trikes and cars that date all the way back to the early 1900’s. We spent a couple of hours there then found a local dinner for a delicious lunch consisting of pot roast and mashed potatoes smothered in gravy and homemade corn bread.
After filling our stomachs we filled our gas tanks and jumped on the Blue Ridge Parkway for a beautiful ride through the mountains with Little Switzerland as our destination.
About an hour and a half into the Parkway we stopped for a cold drink and candy bar – when’s the last time you had a grape or peach Nehi or an ice cold Dr. Pepper in a glass bottle?
Sure did hit the spot! We arrived at the Switzerland Inn at 5:00 and actually had time to relax before eating dinner.
Richard and Cindy took a dip in the hot tub. I took a nap and then the guys moved the bikes to covered parking as a storm was headed our way. So thankful that we were already in for the night.
We ate a lovely dinner at the hotel restaurant. For the first time this trip we actually got to shower and change clothes before dinner. We had the sweetest little waitress who commented on how much she appreciated seeing people that prayed together before their meal and that she so rarely sees that. Such a fun group to sit around and swap stories with while eating. We actually saved room for dessert tonight and boy was it fabulous!
Signing off till tomorrow.
