Well, we only spent the night in Abingdon, VA but it looks like a town you could really spend some time in with all the historical markers and beautiful old homes, churches and hotels. But onward we must go to the Harley dealership in Pikeville, KY to replace a gas cap that was left somewhere in Maggie Valley N.C.
Dean planned the route today which included a really cool road which we named “Serpent” because it was similar to the other two roads earlier in the trip, ie… Diamondback and the Tail of the Dragon. Once off the “Serpent” we entered into Kentucky and onto Pikeville.
We arrived at the Harley dealership in Pikeville and bought the gas cap and while we were there Richard decided to go ahead and replace his tires. They gave him a loaner so we could go to lunch while they worked on his bike. Once the bike was ready we resumed the trip to Lexington. After some confusion with dueling GPS’s – Dean’s GPS was set on scenic route, Robert’s was set on fastest route and Cindy’s iPhone had yet another route – we arrived at hip #ManO’War Harley Davidson in Lexington. Robert had met the owner at the Wheels Through Time museum on Sunday and he said we should check it out if we came through, so we did. The dealership is designed to look like a horse barn, with the salesmen’s desks located in stalls. The group agreed that the dealership is one of the best we have been to across the country, it is 3 levels and has a great assortment of both bikes and merchandise. After dropping a few $ on shirts and such we set off to find a hotel for the evening – tonight Hyatt Place is the winner.
We checked into the Hyatt Place and walked to dinner at a local steakhouse called Malone’s – dinner was fabulous and our rooms are quite large and comfortable.
Tomorrow we head to the Kentucky Horse Park and various other sights. Good night!…
