After a relaxing evening at the Kandahar Lodge in Whitefish we loaded up the bikes and headed out for Glacier National Park…we took a 15 mile detour by accident…I blame the GPS, it can be a bit quirky sometimes.
It’s hard to express the beauty and the awesomeness of God’s handiwork that we got to view as we took the 50 mile “Going-to-the-Sun-Road” through the most breathtaking sights of this national park. The pictures do not do it justice! It took 3 hours to go only 50 miles but it was well worth it. After leaving the park we grabbed a quick lunch and got our passports ready to show as we would be approaching the Canadian border in just a few miles.
Well, the border crossing was uneventful, which is how you always want those to be then we had apx. 470 kilometers to go to reach our hotel in Banff – yes I said kilometers – because now we are in a country where they actually use the metric system that we all tried to learn in elementary school back in the 70’s when the United States was considering switching to it.
Checked into the Banff Park Lodge, which I highly recommend. It is right in the midst of the main shopping and dining area of Banff. We had dinner and bought shirts at Banff Harley Davidson and topped off the night with delicious “turtles and bear claws” from a local candy shop.
Tomorrow we head to Lake Louise!
