We started out this morning in Banff after a hearty breakfast at a diner called Melissa’s which was located across the street from our hotel.
Today was a light travel day with only a trip to Lake Louise and back. It was an easy drive just about 50 kilometers away. If you’ve never been there or seen pictures it’s hard to describe the awesome beauty! Lake Louise is what is known as a “blue water lake” one of the few in the Americas. As you will see from the pictures it is breathtaking. While we were in the area we rode to a nearby ski resort and rode the gondola up the mountain and ate lunch then rode the open-air ski lift back down. Once again great scenery but still no wild life sightings.
When we got back to Banff we walked around the town and ate dinner at a pizza place that was recommended by a local…delicious! That’s why it’s always good to ask the locals for the best restaurants. Then back to a different hotel for our second night in Banff – The Rimrock. Beautiful hotel with fabulous views of the mountains.
On another note, I received the sad news today that my Uncle Bill George passed away. He was a good man who loved his family dearly. I remember him most for taking me on horse-drawn buggy rides in South Dakota when I was a kid and watching my Aunt Mary Jane and him square dance. He will be missed.
